The 8th annual Bright House 2016 Clearwater Super Boat National Championship and Seafood Festival took place starting on September 30th, 2016 in downtown Clearwater Florida. For three days, Super Boat International (SBI) displayed an exciting weekend of race-boat action. The event kicked off Friday evening with a parade through downtown Clearwater where many of the race boat participants trailered their race boats down Cleveland Street, tossing beads and promotional items to enthusiastic fans. A special VIP party sponsored by BayStar Restaurants entertained many of the who’s who and local enthusiasts. On Saturday, down at the Baystar Village, race boat enthusiasts could mingle with the race-boat teams and enjoy the Seafood Festival. There were local business vendors on hand promoting their wares. Throughout the day, the race teams were busy testing their boats, fine-tuning them in for the big race on Sunday. On Sunday there were 3 races scheduled, with the first race featuring Production Class, starting at 11 am. The shoreline was lined with spectators and over 2,000 boats lined the outer perimeter of the 2.5-mile-long race course. Many fans were able to watch from the comfort of hotels, restaurants and condos along the beach. The most anticipated race was the Super Boat Unlimited class with the biggest and fastest boats, some approaching speeds excess 180 mph. The third and final race commenced at 3pm which included the Super Cat and Super Boat Extreme Classes. The event came to a close with an intimate evening farewell and awards party celebration at the Marina Cantina on Clearwater Beach overlooking the marina, beach and a beautiful sunset.
